Ode to Sleep
Maybe I’m just lazy
maybe I’m just tired
But maybe I just want to drift away
from the noises in my head
and the banging in my chest
When my head hits the pillow
and my eyes close shut
I count the sheeps that jump over the fence
I hold the sheets up to my neck
in fear of the monster under my bed
I keep counting the sheeps
that jump over the fence
one by one
and suddenly I’m gone
like a butterfly being chased
I wake up in a dream
of bright stars and sunsets
In front of me are pink clouds
or cotton candy
if you will
A little house rests on a hill
silently watching still
The splintered wood of the house
feels rough against my fingertips
I breathe in the scent
of fresh linen and cookies
The wind gush against my ear
and I hear the quiet screams
How I love the feeling of sleep
The knots in my body
unties and forms a ribbon
The constant worry and stress
that possess my brain
Seemed to grow delicate wings
But sleep goes as fast as it comes
So when I wake up
I yearn for the night
I wait for the moment I fall asleep
