Ode to Summertime
Beaming down yellow rays of light
The Sun smiles sanguineous through the day until night,
Days of soft breezes have ended its course,
In comes the glorious warmth of heat hitting with force.
The clock ticks by but no worries come,
Only sound that matters are the waves
Of the ocean and the surrounding birds that hum
Going off into adventures in order to brave
And enjoy the long-awaited break that many have saved.
Now is the moment to take a chance
Explore the world, go out and dance
Thoughts of worry be left behind
Focus on the pleasant summer day that is bright and kind.
Showing off that sun-kissed skin,
Feeling sand between toe and hand
Seeing kids scrambling to make their castles begin
A competition for the greatest and grand.
Travels are made to reunite with those not seen,
Taking advantage of the time with activities only involving sun screen.
Happiness and smiles are consistent memories
Captured by Polaroid’s looked back upon in reverie.
Late nights don’t exist
Only thing that matters is getting through that fun-filled list;
Long drives, movie theaters, dining out
Endless plans made unforgettable no doubt.
Night under the sky where you sigh at constellations,
Laughing with friends and feel the wind’s sensation;
Lay awake on the freshly cut green grass
Where wishes on shooting stars hope the feeling will never pass.
Value the little moments of the graceful bliss
These sunny days won’t last forever,
Don’t pass up plans you’ll surely miss
Take a step back relax revel in the memories that’ll be forgotten, never.
