ode on a sunset

O thou that brings delight on all who see

Thy wondrous rays of brightly beaming sun,

Who holds the streams that ‘round the sky do run,

And speaks of all God’s mighty works to me:

Thou bring’st the many colors into one

Bright, shining picture grand of light’s display.

And like the hues that send the summer away,

Thy brilliant shades proclaim the day is done.

But as the shifting casts at summer’s fade

Reminds the coming of a new born spring,

The heav’nly spectrum’s blasts on ev’ning’s wing

Proclaims the advent of a brand new day.

But of all thy works of which I’ve come to sing –

Thy pleasant sight and hope for morning’s break –

So much the more your proving pow’r to make

Aware the grand designs of God our King.
