Ode to the Television Remote

Electronic box with so much power. Small,

but mighty. Crutch of lives since 1955.

How easy you are to miss place.

No arms, no legs, and no wings, but

you still seem to disappear often.

How useless we are without you.

Controller of frequency and acoustics.

Power to illuminate and extinguish.

All power diminishes with the removal

of two objects. How useless you become.

Enabler of  idleness, stagnation, and inertness.

Unique to each device, controller of only

one device. Magical, mysterious, baffling.

Millions produced, loved by all owners.

Ruler of the living room. Whoever has

possession of you takes a position of

authority. Those without are vulnerable.

You go with the screen like peanut butter

and jelly. Paired together forever.

Responsible for hours of entertainment.
