Ode to Time

Life hinges upon getting lost in moments

These stand-stills that travel at the speed of light

The rhythmic tick-tock giving us space to start again

Time, you seem endless. Eternal.

She remembers the walls of the cell

a sternum to the depths of her soul

as she sat, hands stapled into steeples by injustice

you passed her by until she was free.

So, Ode to you for letting us arrive fashionably late

Or respectably early.

Ode to you for telling us we've talked too much

Or still have hours to kill.
