Ode to Track

Location

47201
United States

It’s been three months, just three

A short dash stretched into an eternity

Filled with hugs and tears, voice-cracking cheers

Pretending we can’t feel the rain

We don’t cancel as easily as softball

Or finalize last-minute like lacrosse

Track’s totally different from all of those

I’m surprised we’ll ever stop

I started out completely lost

But now I know I’ve found my way

Thanks to all you guys it’d take forever

To start a shout-out just by name

Sure, the weather just might hate us

It rained for the first four meets we had

Some people got sick, including me

But it cleared up soon enough

I know for sure we’ll make those hurdles

Maybe we’ll stutter-step

Just one or two but in the end

We find a way around

(Or under, you know, like Seth!

Sorry, I had to say that

His expression in the moment

Was absolutely priceless!)

It’ll be another year for me

Too long for me to wait

Hopefully I won’t regret my words

When we hit the track again

Next year, running in the rain.
