Ode to Wine

Lips stained a crimson red

Desperately awaiting her approach

As graceful as water she flowed towards him

The scent of her was intoxicating

Enveloped in her sweetness

He reveled in a sanguine paradise

In vain

He consumed her bottomless love

Slowly, sincerely, selfishly

No amount was enough

To quench his thirst

Alone at the table

Lazy fingers trace patterns

In the wood

Endless, dizzying swirls

His vision blurred

With only her unwavering love

And his own shadow

To keep him company he was

Reminded of the man he once was

Life of the party,

God among men

When the sun dawned

No longer would he feel her touch

Remorseful, his lonely heart

Ached

For tonight

Trembling fingers

Wrap around the crystal stem

Dionysus lifts the glass to his lips

And sighs
