Sickly sweet

The reaper comes

Handing out treats

So that you succumb

What has happened?

Time is now numb

First was the child

So happy, so dumb

Easy pickings

Just use the crumbs

Next what came?

The darkest slum

They know

Some try to overcome

Simply push the clock hand forward

Offer them darkness in a world of candelabrum

The path stretches

Out strung

They lose motivation,

Overhung

What is joy? Love?

How can they wade throughout their dung?

Give for free

Their life rerun

Realization begins

Life, the thrum

Too late, too long

By the prickling of their thumbs

I come to welcome them home

They struggle for the unsung

But you can’t fight the reaper

It just isn’t done
