Office Romance

Dido stalks before her throne, worker bees in leaden suits flitting around her,

Golden tendrils framing her face, brows knotted in concentration

Her laptop screen flashes white, clock ticking in the distance

Cooly distributing orders, high heels clicking down the hall

Aeneas slanters in through the door, clothes ruffles and tie undone

A mere intern lost in the corporate world, seeking his way home,

Decades of familial wishes and heavenly decrees slathered on his back

A small pawn in a much bigger game played

Dido vowed to never remarry, but with one glance, she was weak

A  former almighty CEO, her presence dominating the room

Head lowered, reason aside, company at the back of her mind

Willing to run the second the second Aeneas called

A short-lived office romance, her falling far

A long-term obligation, his destiny did not lie here

Leaving in the blink of an eye, he left her in a wrecked state

Begging and pleading, her world going down in a spiral

Dido lays draped over her throne, her workers looking on in horror

Tears streaming from her eyes, grief running from her lungs

Company collapsed, heart broken, will lost

Laptop screen darkens, a bottle of pills circling her still body like a veil
