Oh! Brother — laid upon sighs
Oh! brother —
Laid upon sighs —
It resides —
The Selfsame sky!
Distil in sea
To the shore soughs —
Sand slipped — an hour ago —
My hem of pall — it roams
While singing Raven —
Distrustful mourn!
Break it to a town —
I measured the steps —
Liberty unchained —
Boughs carried the rest —
The lane ordained!

▾ This Poem's Voice
Your Poem's Voice
Mix of personal meditation (brother, hem) and abstract philosophical inquiry (liberty, sky)
Dense accumulation of fragmented images and concepts; high idea compression
Melancholic with undertones of longing; restless rather than dark
Urgent fragmented syntax, dashes create staccato rhythm, kinetic movement
Approximately 12 lines; falls in 7-15 range
Rich personification, metaphor, symbolism throughout; highly ornamented
Primarily lyric internal consciousness with meditative address
