Oh heart,

how do you function?

how do you beat?

how do you breathe?

how do you thrive?

how do you somehow do all of these at once?

how do you absorb all the hurt?

how do you love?

how do you handle breaking?

how do you share yourself with others?

how do you put yourself entirely in the hands of God?

how do you stay rooted?

how do you pursue joy?

how do you hope?

-you encounter more pain than preferred,

yet you never let too many moments pass by 

before you grasp joy and pull it in close
