Oh, but I Want to Fly!

I look up and my throat ceases,

my breath haults, my eyes water

and, my body trembles.

Oh, but I want to fly!

Grab the ladder and climb!

And, climb and climb and climb.

Oh, but I want to fly!

Buckle the harness and look below,

look beyond the treetops

from my perch I scan the earth.

Oh, but I want to fly!

Take a deep breath and say a little prayer,

hop off the ledge.

As I glide, I scream for everyone and no one to hear.

I fly and fly and fly!
