Oh Magnificent Beast

Oh magnificent beast

How I fear you

You outweigh me by thousands

Your graceful hooves could crush me

Your gentle but fiery eyes can scorch my soul

How I wish to learn to trust you

How can one so large be so graceful?

How can one so large be so gentle?

How can one so large be so misunderstood?

How did I misunderstand you?

From that first day in class

When I learned to lead you

When my heart was pounding out of my chest

That leap of faith when I lead you out of your stall

When the pounding of my heart changed from fear to excitement

My passion burst into flame

What was once a mild and fearful curiosity

Burst forth on wings like eagles

Now I desire to learn more and know more about you

But on that first day

When I first lead you

How I learned of your gentleness

How I learned of your patience

How I learned that despite your size

You are the tamest of them all

How I wish I knew sooner

Your grace and gentleness far surpass every animal that I have worked with

Your intelligence astounds me

You have fire in your eyes for a reason

You seek justice, and take note of those who wronged you

Yet you are gentle

You forgive

We have reason to fear you

Your size and strength far surpassing our own

Yet you also give us reason to trust you

Oh magnificent creature

How I love you
