oh, mama
I go to school, they make fun of me,
again
again
and again..
Mama says their just jealous
I start to get insecure
Their words hit me like bullets
like I've commited a crime
I've never felt so much hate before,
They tend to tell me that since I have a darker skin complexion I couldn't even afford a dime
A dime?
Their words hit me
They continue to say how my hair is so ugly because its too high
As their words strike me
I am bleeding
I am wounded
I go home shedding tears
Ma ask me whats wrong with her eyes full of fear
I bursted out
I couldn't bear it
Mama sits me on her lap
Then I find comfort
Mama reads me a poem about a darkskin girl
Her afro rised to the sky because it was closer to God
Her skin glowed in the sun
Her brown eyes and 4c curls will flow when she would run
I fell in love with poetry
gazing at the words
feeling a sign of comfort
because of Mama and poetry i say
I am me
