Oh Seatbelt!

Stepping inside the car

Fastening the seatbelt around my waist

Checking both mirrors 1,2,3

Making sure everyone inside the car is ready to go

Only to switch from park to drive

Once on the road only noticing how everyone speeds by

Glad to have my seatbelt fastened

Boom! Crash!

Oh Seatbelt! Thank you for protecting me.

Without you, I could have flown out the window just like the person

in the other car did.

Mom and dad always told me to always wear a seatbelt in the back.

Sometimes we listen and sometimes we don't.

But now in the driver seat, the importance of wearing a seatbelt is apparent more.

Every driver out there doesn't drive like I do

Safe, responsible, at the speed limit

Checking road signs, stopping at the stop sign, stopping at the red light

No texting and driving, No drinking and driving

All these rules make sense once you are the one in control of the car

It's not the same being in the back, where you are not in control of the car

But once you are, you will be giving thanks to your seatbelt.

Knowing that the road is dangerous and a car is dangerous

and that there are all sorts of rules to follow

makes me realize that I have truly grown up.
