oklahoma falls

One golden leaf falls from a tree
a person's riding, I envision me.
the branch it fell from is jealous now
that I have taken the leaf that's golden brown,
but it's forgiving for its friend will be back
in the spring it will gain what it lacks.

As the wind blows I stray further away
enjoying the ride on such a beautiful day
and as the night falls the leaf comes to rest
I lay down, the ground to my chest.

Listening to the soil mutter a sad lullaby
I close my eyes as I begin to cry
but the moon tells me, "drift in sleep"
so I relax as time slows to a creep
the final words heard come from the grass
wrapping me... helping me complete my task

I'm full of warmth comfort and hope
I'm finally asleep on a slight autumn slope.
