That Old Friend

Pain came to me like an old friend

Opened his arms to embrace my ever so beating heart

Some fear his presence but I am a bulls eye while he is the dart

He bends and twists my point of view

He pushes me to build walls for the world to see

Those walls protect

For suffering never leaves

Like an old friend
