Old Man By the Sea

“There’s a storm coming in!” I turn to see who spoke A man with leathery skin Hidden in a cloud of smoke His breath smelled of gin Holding a pipe made of oak Blowing of the wind Made the embers inside stoke “I stood at this spot when I was your age Hell! It seemed like yesterday” The storm was out a long way As I contemplated the destruction it would wage The rolling clouds of grey Was violent and filled with rage On course toward the bay Preparing to come on stage “You know, it was on these rocks I too, considered my fate Deciding whether or not to knock On heaven’s pearly gates I had to take stock Before it was too late Discovering them unlocked I had chosen to wait” “Life is more than just regrets For it has many rewards When it gets too hard, just don’t fret And remain within her ward There will be times when you’re in debt And times when blessings are stored To love the people you have met And live in one accord” The wind was getting severe Spray whipping across my face The inevitability of death was sheer The storm proceeded with haste I sat on the crags, heart filled with fear The storm around e gave chase Flashed before my eyes, the ones I held dear As the world around me was laid to waste For what seemed like an eternity Amidst all the confusion A feeling of a fraternity Yet, some sort of seclusion Guidance of paternity This old man’s intrusion Brought to me much clarity A beneficial illusion
