Old News
I’m tired of being parts of an assembly line
Living life by this factory’s design
Nails and bolts that screw me in
Cogs and chains that always win
It’s not right
That I can’t fight
Open my eyes, what do I see?
Copies of bodies that look just like me
“Fitting” in...Blending in
Remember when we were so young
Trying to find where we belong
It’s gone, we’re still lost
Now when we try to be ourselves
We become like everyone else
It’s true, we’re old news
I want to freely walk a winding road
Make a path that I can call my own
Why are all these colors so gray?
Why can’t I just escape?
From this place
From this space.
Open my eyes what do I see?
Colors that don’t work with me
I’m not fitting, not blending in
Remember when we were so young
Trying to find where we belong
It’s gone, we’re still lost
Now when we try to be ourselves
We become like everyone else
It’s true, we’re old news
So you tell me
I’m unworthy
But surely
That’s not reality
I’ll break the line of this routine that I am in
Color in this world the way it should have been
You can’t break me
You can’t change me
Don’t catch me if you can ‘cause you can’t follow me
I’m making my decisions, so finally
Let me
Be free
Remember when we were so young
Trying to find where we belong
It’s not gone, We’re not lost
So let’s keep trying to be ourselves
Because we’re not like everyone else
It’s true, we’re not old news
