Old Summer
Here's another one for you all hope you enjoy!;
There’s a funny thing about summer, it truly is one of a kind.
It always seems to go way too slow or way too fast.
In the past, I used to love summer, I used to think it was years of fun,
But that was back then.
Back when making friends was as easy as saying hi,
Back when I didn’t used to constantly cry.
Back then, when my brother didn’t always fight me and my sister still thought I was fun to hang out with.
All those summers ago, when I still felt Seen, felt wanted, loved, Needed.
Back when I didn’t feel broken.
Not a pretty broken, like shattered glass.
But ripped and chewed up like a thrown up piece of plastic.
In the trash.
I wish I could go back to how it was back then.
Back when I used to dream of the future, and not just waking up in this bullpen.
Back when sleeping with the light on used to be enough to scare the monsters under the bed,
But now that same light does nothing against the ones in my head.
I wish I could go back to when I used to be proud to walk with my head up high,
But now I walk with a slump, scared that if I walk upright,
All the pieces of myself that I so desperately tried to stick and clump together, will fall out and apart.
All Ripped up and chewed.
I’m not glass, I'm plastic, slowly being chipped and chewed away.
People take pictures of shattered glass, but nobody takes pictures of plastic.
Broken plastic isn’t pretty, it’s just broken.
And broken things tend to get thrown away.
That’s the funny thing about summer, I seem to find it truly is one of a kind.
Way too fast.
I think I've forgetten this on my last couple of post but thanks so much for reading!
Have a good rest of your day/night!

Your Poem's Voice
Personal reflection on lost youth and summer memories with some philosophical questioning
Multiple interconnected ideas: nostalgia, broken identity, social isolation, self-worth compressed densely
Strongly negative: despair, self-degradation, longing for lost past, hopelessness about future
Urgent emotional intensity with repetitive emphasis; building dread but meditative pacing
Approximately 50+ lines; extended meditation with multiple stanzaic breaks
Rich metaphorical language: plastic vs glass, monsters under bed, broken pieces, chewed/ripped imagery
Pure lyric first-person introspection; direct autobiographical voice throughout
