Once I Had A Dream: House Of Cards

Thu, 09/28/2017 - 10:37 -- Mhillba

Once i had a dream.

I had a dream i was building a house of cards.

But i never got past the base.

It kept falling and falling.

And every time it fell, my heart gave a little tug.

I felt sad for the house of cards.

Not because they kept falling, but because i knew what it felt like.

In the background a piano played.

Its sorrowful notes in tune with the house of cards.

Gradually getting higher and higher than settling down.

Is that what it's like?

Getting so far, and getting so close

then everything comes crumbling to the ground around you.

I couldn't tell you. I can never get past the base.

I can never get to the starting line to begin to climb.

I sat at my kitchen table building the house of cards.

But i never got past the base.

As i sat there, i wondered if someone else was doing the same thing as me.

Sitting alone building a house of cards.

I imagined they were in the future.

A time that will come soon but just not yet.

I imagined they were at their kitchen table

building a house of cards with the sad sweet melody of piano in the background.

I imagined that everything was so advanced they didn't have cards.

They were building theirs out of holograms.

The hologram version of cards.

And like me, they couldn't get past the base.

And like me, they felt that same tug of heart every time it fell.

And like me, wondered what it was like to have everything you worked for go away.

I imagined that they thought if others were doing the same thing as them.

Sitting at the kitchen table building a house of cards.

I imagined that they thought of them in the past,

where they had actual cards instead of holograms.

I imagined how they thought what actual cards felt like.

The texture, smell.

That's what i imagined.

Building a house of cards, that you can't even get the basics of.

The piano in the background slowly making its way out of the white noise

and becoming your mind.

Making you feel what it wants you to feel.

Calming you as its keys produce emotion

that you've never thought could be portrayed from a factory made object.

Its beauty captivated you; mind body and soul.

That's what dreamed of. I dreamed of my senses.

The sound of the piano,

the smell of stale air,

the texture of the cards,

the sight of beyond time,

and the taste of accomplishment.

I sat at the kitchen table, building a house of cards.

And again as it fell, my heart gave a little tug.
