Once Lost Love

She's heard it a million times. And yet still believes all the lies.  It was never a question of do or die. But now, the tears fill her eyes.  And above all else, you can hear her cries.
Eating away at her heart, washing away the new found hope of a once lost love. She was never afraid to let people in until you walked out.
Pain is temporary. Love is imaginary.  The scars on her wrists and the blood dripping from her fingertips. Those are forever. The color red overflowing from heart to body to mind to soul.
Wondering where she went wrong. She's never experienced a pain that lasted so long.
Everything still stays hidden. Every night the cries grow stronger, the fight gets harder, she will never win this war. No one really knows what happens behind that closed door. The tears pour. She counts to four. But she just can't take it anymore.
1, 2, 3, 4.
It all happens so fast.  She takes breathes as though they will be her last. A majority of the time these attacks come on quicker than they pass.
But after all is said and done, her breathe returns back to normal and her bruised eyes close.
When morning comes, it's time to rise with the sun, and pretend that this devil inside of her has not won.
