Once Upon...

Once upon a time....

was how my childhood started.

And with an ever after cried

the prince to his princess.

And I mouthing

every word Disney is offered.

As I grew older the tales never did,

And away from me they were never rid.

Still I can relive it many upon a time.

And each time,

I find myself still waiting, wondering, wishing

for my happily ever after.

Once upon a midnight dreary...

Was when the raven

placed his form upon the door.

And offered no hope, no rebirth, no future

for the lost...

And I being a student had now experienced a

"Once Upon" that ended not in ever after but

nevermore.

The waiting continued for me,

who continued to look for

the truth between the endings.

The wondering slowly emerged

within the darkest crevices

of my mind.

Did the raven say what shall be?

Did the prince's words flee?

As I read the poem many a time

And watch the tales many a time

I find that though my life begins as

"Once Upon...."

And has yet to end.

So I will continue wishing for

My "happily ever after"

and brood "nevermore."
