Once Upon A Time...

You all know the story

Of the princess in her tower,

Hidden away for a knight to find -

Rescue and spirit away.

But do you rememeber,

The girl who did not agree,

Who, for her kingdom chose

To give up her freedom,

To be locked away - high in an old wizard's home.

In her search of boredom,

Seeking new ideas,

Our princess at last discovered

To her great delight,

Books upon books,

Cauldrons and crystal balls,

Potions and their ingrediants -

Eye of newt,

Talon of dragon,

Blood of pixie - from the north of the fairy lands.

In her hours of solitude,

Locked so high away,

The princess began to learn.

She studied the old ways of magic,

Finding spells and taking notes.

Choosing sweeping robes and wizard's staffs

Over fancy dresses and shoes.

On the day a knight came to "rescue" her,

He found her standing tall.

He found her with her magic,

Strong and firm and sure.

She no longer needed saving,

For she had saved herself.
