"Once Upon a Time"

"Once upon a time"
I write on a sheet of paper
Then I stop
Perplexed
Musing on what I should
Write next.
This is the writer's dilemma
Pleasure mixed with pain
One sheet of paper
Conveys an infinite amount Of space
Where you find yourself
Adrift
Vague thoughts and ideas
To sift
Yet nothing stands out
As a gem
 So you keep going
Hoping to stumble
Upon the sublime.
Then you pause
Stare at the windowsill
Your attention caught
Tangled in the thicket
of a dead rose bush
You blush
Ashamed
Its skeletal
Outline etched in your brain.
