The One

Why do I go on living this way?

Why do I believe I can be happy?

Why does it hurt so much

To be away from you?

To be alone in a world

So cold and bare.

To be a pawn in a game

Meant for someone else.

To be the king, yes a king

Of nothing but a fallen realm.

One that fell about and hour

Or maybe more ago.

As I write a declaration,

A real relation

To the life I used to live.

To shuffle off the pain.

The pain that should’ve left

Twenty years ago.

99 words and counting up.

Counting the time until I’m free.

My guitar plays,

My mind aches,

My watch reads half past four.

I just wanted to help the ones

That betray me as I stand

A lonely, not so innocent,

Broken man.

Success may come in waves.

I may live my days.

I may make it in life.

But what does it all matter

If I can’t be the one?

The one that makes everything right.

The one to improve your life.

The innocent ones go first.

Every time.

Why are they so valuable

To a population so crude?

So undeserving.

So blind to the beauty

That is her soul.

I want to think I’m everything.

I want to think I’m the one.

I want to think I’m happiness.

Maybe I’m nothing.
