The One

The one that comes after you will be trustworthy

He will be honest with me

But I won’t believe him because

I won’t understand it

The one that comes after you will be pure

He will cherish my mind over my body

And I will feel unattractive because

I won’t understand it

The one that comes after you will be devoted

He will kiss me on the good days and hold me on the bad

But I will still doubt his loyalty because

I won’t understand it

The one that comes after you will be gentle

He will carefully caress my body

And I will break down because

I won’t understand it

The one that comes after you will be empathetic

He will learn why I don’t understand

And I will feel like a burden because

I wish I understood

The one that comes after you will know you

He will see you in my insecurities

He will hear you in my cries

He will taste the bitterness you left in me

And he will resent you for it

The one that comes after you will be steadfast

He will pick up the pieces you left me in

One by one

Attempting to make me whole again

And eventually I will let him
