FROM ONE ADDICT TO ANOTHER
We all share where it all went wrong.
I've never walked in your shoes.
We traveled the same path,
where we found nothing left to lose.
Never to escape the feeling,
of not knowing where we belong.
Its part of how addiction works,
when everything goes wrong.
A roller coaster ride,
that lasts your entire life.
Fast pace, whiplash,
waves and sudden drops.
You chase the thrill
that makes you ill.
Busted and broke,
severed hope.
Where does the addict fly?
Out of sight, out of mind,
to forget this life of mine.
New face, unrecognized.
Morals and values compromised.
Tears like rain,
no ability to cry.
Numb and panicked, the time runs out,
every where you lie.
No home, no phone,
can you spare a smoke?
Can I take one more day, will I be okay?
New promises made and new ones broken,
now is permanently broke.
Lost pieces,
new diseases.
Life cut short for the friend down the street.
He told me he was suicidal when we spoke
last week!
Collecting change,
that's never enough.
Trying to find a way.
Another front from the man,
you never plan to pay back.
On to the next,
that believes you that you can.
Every addict falls and many addicts die.
From one addict to another,
who lost their will to try.
It's not that we were cursed.
Are battle is one if the worst.
No matter what we do,
we all face the same dispair,
We just walk in different shoes.
