One Bit at a Time

Location

She smiled at me

And that was all it took

Suddenly,

My head got just a little bit clearer

My heart got just a little less bitter

My day got just a little bit better

And I looked up at the sky

Realizing just how beautiful life is

I couldn't help myself

And I did the unthinkable

I smiled back

Then

I smiled at the next person I saw

I watched as his somber face split into a perfect cocktail

Of

One part Confused

Three parts Happy

And two parts Realization

I watched him look into the sky

As his own smile stretched slowly into place

I watched his day get just a little bit brighter

His head raise just a little bit higher

His smile get just a little bit wider

And

I realized that I just changed the world

Just a little bit

But maybe that little bit

Is just what the world needs
