One Day

When I was a little girl you were my whole world

When I thought of  you, you would make my mind swirl

But as I got older I realized that you were not all I thought you to be

I finally realized that you were lying to me

You lied about who you were

You now only speak in slurs

You  tell me that all you see is blur

You say that you will always be there for me

But here I was losing a part of me

You were supposed to be my parent

But it became apparent that you weren’t

And that reminder came to me recurrent

There was a one time when it became silent

And there was nothing violent

It was when you went to jail

And maybe for you it was hell

But for me it was a time to excel

So even though you blew it

I still love you

I never have thought that I am above you

I just want you to show me that love me.

Someday that might happen

But for now I will love you from a distance

Until you learn that I am your daughter and not your parent.
