One Day

one day

we crossed paths

it was an accident

a mere coincidence amidst the routine day

and I felt love

for the very first time

one day

we laughed and laughed

and you smiled at me

and said

"you really  are something beautiful"

one day

we walked through the record store

in the old part of our city

and you took my hand

for the very first time

and my cheeks felt like the sun

one day

you told me you loved me

as we lay on the grass in that park

the itchy blades tickling the back of my legs

and the summer sun

spotting my arms with more freckles

one day

we began to grow apart

and I felt my heart

tearing at the seams

as you drifted further

and further away from me

one day

I left you

because I knew that

one day

you would leave me

and it's been quite some time since that

one day

but perhaps

maybe

one day

coincidence will meet up with routine again

and somebody new

will take my hand and tell me

"you really are something beautiful"

e.m.t.
