The one that got away

To the one that got away,

Don't you dare tell me that life isn't important,

That there is no meaning to the flowers planted in the ground,

That the sun rises each morning even on the gloomiest of days

Don't let the world make you hard,

Forgetting about the stars and the moon in exchange for the dark,

And letting the pain take away your love in this world

Because although it's December and the snow is freezing your heart,

January will be the one to caress you back to warmth,

And so will I,

Right here with you

But as October came,

The rhythm of your heart beat slowly left my chest,

My hands grasped against your hands as long as I could,

Until our fingertips touched for the last time as you let go

And that's when a part of my body drifted with you,

Leaving me bare with my tar black soul,

Alone and cold,

As you once were

You slithered into my being,

Taking the red pill that God warned me about,

And now I'm on the floor,

Laying in a pool of brokenness
