One Moment

One moment can change a life

I know what you’re thinking

Your eyes are looking at this screen

Blinking

Your mind is laughing, saying

OBVIOUSLY

But I don’t think

You really understand

So ill write it again

One moment

(faster than a second or longer than a minute)

Can change

           (alter, warp, evolve, or shift)

A life

(a person, a soul with dreams and purpose)

When I was 16, going on 17

I had a dream

I was going to be a volleyball star

I would play all throughout high school

I could play at the collegiate level

I should go on to be a coach

But then I had a moment

A post, forever facebooked on my own personal timeline

A picture, filtered and stored in the Instagram of my brain

A vine, six seconds just replaying over and over in my mind

A moment of shock, anguish, and pain

The moment I got hurt

Now I was 17 going on 18

And I was damaged

I had micro tears on my Achilles

I was going to sit the rest of my senior season

I would NOT be play again that year

I could start to see my dreams begin to tear

I should…..

Well I did not know what I should have done

But I did what I felt like doing

I cried

I cried for more than a moment

I cried until my head began to throb and pound

And when I thought there was no hope to be found

One man

One moment

Turned my dreams around

He patched me up and got me moving

He work with me and soon, I was jumping!

See all the doctors said

Game Over

But he made sure I advanced to the next level

Now I am 20, going on 21

I am still far from being done

I still play a little

I run a lot

And to this day I have no more pain in my leg

That man was my physical therapist, see

Unintentionally he gave me more than just therapy

He gave me hope to grab on to

He gave me a new dream to pursue

One moment

One day

I will be a therapist,

Hopefully just as good as mine

I still have a long way to go

Through my bachelors, internships, doctorates and more

Along the way there will be stress

Sometimes from grades,

Sometimes from money,

But still, onward I press

I work hard for that day

When I get to be a sentence, a page, a chapter

In the book of someones personal story

I want to be a moment

In their history

That took them from a

Broken being

           physically, emotionally and spiritually

to a

Whole being

physically, spiritually and emotionally

I want to be a physical therapist
