the one that my school rejected

you were

a creeping smile

red tipped thorns on vines,

sharp and ever growing.

a mythic beast

drawn to the feast

you were vast and all knowing.

i put my trust in you,

faith like glowing lanterns in the trees:

glowing and pulsing,

leaving dark shadows to mask the debris.

pounding out a rhythmic heartbeat.

looking back i should have known

that the monster i had grown to fear

was the one that i held so close-

so dear.

that your kindness was but a veiled plan

to lure me in; to hold me down-

down within your softly lit den

with all your other so called, “friends”
