One Need For All
Well, let me think on this and look around my room awhile.
I scan my desk, the nightstand and the shelves within my view.
I look among all my gifted books and I realize what I would
do.
Some will think I have an item there to help me catch some
game,
For on this island you'll have to eat an animal you cannot
name.
Or maybe you think I'd take that souvenir container to hold
some water,
Given to me as a reminder of a soccer game I attended with
my father.
Some will say he has a weapon there among his shelves
of wood.
Perhaps a knife, a gun, a hatchet; he'd take all of these if
he could.
For any of these items would help him kill something strange
to eat.
So he can survive on this deserted island and not end in
self defeat.
Some will say he'll take a photo hanging there upon
the wall.
Or maybe a family portrait, framed and placed on down
the hall.
For this picture will be a reminder to give him greater strength
each day,
To survive this cast-away island until he can get back home
somehow; someway .
I say your guesses are commendable,
And some make the most common sense.
But what my eyes have focused on just might make some
of you wince.
A book is shining brightly as if a spotlight was shone
that way,
A book given to me by my mother on my
confirmation day.
This book contains the stories of a man who suffered more
than me.
His stories tell of love, hope and grace given to everyone who
will believe.
With the knowledge foretold to us inside this book with
many chapters,
I know I will survive this island for I have faith in what happens
in the "after".
After our time is up on earth, even on a deserted isle.
The faith in grace given by my God gives me forever life, from this book, The Bible.
