One Out Of A Million
To be one in a million, is a strange, common, and dangerous thought.
This is commonly taught in our society,
"YOU, are one in a million, YOU are special."
But what if the tables were reversed, and you were one OUT of a million?
Things are now very different based on definition. You are out, different.
If only this was encouraged, if only everyone would embrace being someone different.
Someone different from the last. To be unique is to be a disgrace now, children are running home from school feeling special because they were told they were.
I am an artist. A great and unique person who can never be recreated.
I am a scarred and beautiful person. I have suffered the battle of being a nobody, that is so advertised.
To walk around the hallways of so many people who all act and dress the same is a surprisingly hard thing to do.
A healthy person is a different person. Unless you are truly "different" then you are ill. Because you are not just different, but noticeably different.
Artists are crazy. Designers are boring. Computer programmers are nerds. Video gamers are geeks. If you like something you are obsessed, or a freak.
Who are we to make people feel horrible because they are who they are. Because they are passionate about something.
I have been ashamed of myself and of my past of someone who loves to create, who is musically inclined, who loves kids, who is a photographer, who was afraid.
Why is "one is a million" such a special phrase, when it really is saying that you are one small, tiny, little person out of a very large crowd, and because of that very large crowd it is more than likely that you will never be noticed.
And that you are so special, that we are going to let you know that you are officially apart of the crowd that surrounds you and that is what makes you "special."
Eventually I realized that as an individual, I needed to be proud to be an individual. I am different. By society's standards I am a self-harming crazed photographer who doesn't know how to fit in.
And this is okay, because I am me. The world doesn't need to know my story, just that I have overcome, and through my art, is it shown.
Children come home, tell your mothers that you love something, or someone, and just how excited you are because you discovered your passion.
Because the next thing you know, you will be apart of a sea or robots. Nothing special about anything or anyone.
Be you. Be proud. Be happy. Be different.
Because broken things have a potential. Always have, and always will. Don't be afraid to be the person you were made to be.
Become like me, and others who have gone through hell and high water to find themselves, and be one out of a million.
