One pill
One pill, every day, taken by mouth
At bedtime
It is not
A quick fix
It is not
The easy way
It is not
As effective as a sugar pill
It is not
Instant gratification
One pill, every day, taken by mouth
At bedtime
It is not
The solution to my problems
It is not
Pulling me out of depression
It is not
Getting me out of bed in the morning
It is not
The reason why color seeped back into my gray world
One pill, every day, taken by mouth
At bedtime
It is not
What makes me strong but
It is not
A weakness
It is not
Just a chemical problem
It is not
The thing that fixed me
One pill, every day, taken by mouth
At bedtime
It is not
A replacement for self-love, self-care
It is not
Equal to or greater than my own resolve
It is not
The only thing keeping me together but
It is not
Something I can live without
One pill, every day, taken by mouth
At bedtime
It is
A subtle chemical nudge away from depression
It is
The oblong, Barbie-pink tablet that seeps into my bloodstream
It is
A nightly ritual enshrouded in judgment
It is
A part of who I am, but not all that I can be.
