One of These Days

One of these days

You’ll come to understand

The last thing I needed

Was another fucking man

I spent so many nights

Alone crying at this desk

Going over the wrongs and rights

Heavy weight on my chest

I swear, it feels like fire

Guess I’ll call it heartburn

You still call me a liar

One day you’ll learn

I’m going to take it all

The pain, strife, and suffering

It took me so long to call,

The courage I was mustering

Ran away at full speed

Just as fast as I did

I couldn’t give you what you need

I was still just a kid

I still am, Truth be told

I needed to lick my wounds and heal

These days, I’m feeling old

But I love you still

Now time marches forward

As does the pain we inflicted

I never meant to be a coward

You never meant to be vindictive

I couldn’t handle the heat

So I got out of the kitchen

My flaws I must defeat

I am ready to listen

Not to preach

But now you must do the same

Life ain’t a peach

Yet our hearts will become tame

I know your pain

Is more than I can fix

But I know the things that bring strain

Can be nixed

Transfixed on the future

In a hopeful attempt

To tie off the final suture

And slay the contempt

One of these days

You’ll come to see

You’re the only man

That has ever meant a thing to me.
