One Thing
if today i wander, and find myself
far from this home to which I cling
I'd give tomorrow a fighting chance,
granted just one thing
stranded somewhere far away,
cast into the dark unknown,
i'd need to have my music-
the most important thing I own
i don't sing or dance or play or write,
but there is something about a song
that can hold me up or tear me down
or remind me i belong
it's so abstract, yet tangible-
an idea that i can see;
i feel it in my heart and soul
flowing deep inside of me
it's in my head and all around
connecting me to perfect strangers,
and when i'm struggling with my thoughts
it will wash away the dangers
music is all that i'll ever need
to venture and to strive
as long as i've got rhythmic noise,
i'll always feel alive
