The One Thing

There's only one thing that you can't live without

(besides the obvious physical needs),

The one thing that keeps you alive,

Opens your eyes,

And even changes the world around you-

You

Where would you be without yourself?

You wouldn't be at all!

Your own body is the principal thing in your life,

And without it you would cease to exist.

So, what of those brave people

Whose bodies are broken?

The dead, the injured, their cries unspoken?

Their lives,

Their homes,

Lie ruined in waste.

Let's remember them

When we run, laugh, and play.

Because they found the courage

To protect us today.
