One Voice... One Change
She breathed the breath of life into me,
Even when she had none to give,
She huffed and puffed and gave me everything she had,
Recovery came slow but it came.
One decision many years ago,
never knowing that it wouldn't be a decison that would only affect her,
made because someone spoke,
"Hey why don't you try it?"
Slowly it consumed her,
Life got longer and harder,
Cigarrets became a crutch,
now it is as though life depends on them.
Not a day passes without a visit from the devil,
not a day goes by with out her losing one more breath,
not a day passes that she doesn't take the health from her children,
to replace with the hand-me-down addiction.
One life hung in the balance with me,
Two, three, now four.
the littlest of us all struggles the hardest.
18 days it took to meet him,
the addiction consumed her,
now nearly took his life,
5 years since and the struggle is still sureal,
5 years of medication,
5 years of pain,
5 years of a fight,
5 years of weak lungs,
All because his mommy smoked,
All because our mommy has an addiction,
All because of "Hey try this!"
It should not be legal to take life from others from a decision made 20 years ago.
