One-Way Glass

Dear Nick,

I don’t know where to start,

With your laugh or your smile

Or the way you wear your heart,

The way you make mine run a mile.

You do it so seamlessly,

Without missing a beat.

You made me smile so easily,

In the hallways where we would meet.

You don’t see me, like I’m behind one-way glass;

Different worlds, creating walls around us too tall to climb.

So I just watch from the outside, watch you in class;

Pretending like it does not hurt me, this wall growing thicker in time.

But it does hurt, more than you'll ever know,

Because you are on the other side, not seeing me trying to let go.
