To the one who taught me what i know
I'd never felt like I was less than,
like I was without enough knowledge of the world.
I'd never felt as if I was missing out on what I could do or
what I could be.
That was until the day you met me.
You showed me what it means to work and
showed me what it means to earn.
You showed me how it feels to succeed
even among the world's need and greed.
You helped me see that there's more to life.
You helped me learn from my mistakes.
Surrounded by temptation, I was an Eve among snakes.
I'd never felt a need for more,
despite life's standards boring into my soul.
I didn't know what it meant to fail--then succeed.
I didn't know what life had in store for me.
You gave me newfound knowledge
of the person I can be.
I am eternally grateful for that day you met me.
