One Wish
If I found a genie in a bottle and got only one wish,
I would not beckon a new ball glove or request a favorite dish.
I would not hope for world peace or even less crime.
I would not speak of permanent youth or a little more time.
I would not undertake global warming or look for less snow.
I would not demand more friends or eliminate a foe.
I would not cry for more money or even more stuff.
I would not yearn for expensive things, I have quite enough.
I would not beg to end poverty or wish no more war.
I would not ask for no famine or food for the poor.
I would not solicit later curfews or dream of less work.
I would not command fewer chores or some other sort of perk.
I would not desire a faster car or some pretty girl.
I would not call on more height or more weights to curl.
I would not require a Lake House and big boat to tow.
I would not summons a big buck instead of that doe.
I would not seek more common sense or a larger, bigger brain.
I would not entreat more happiness and a little less pain.
Some might try to be crafty and petition three more.
This is not me, however, I wouldn’t open that door.
I would not ask for more wishes instead of just one.
I would simply wish that God’s will always be done.
