One World
I have seen the world and I have tried to label it
with a strong desire to make sense of what is
normal. strange.
hard.
People going places and doing things everyday.
I ask why
that baby is crying,
that stomach is empty,
those fish are floating,
that water is grey.
Why is our world growing smaller and smaller,
yet it feels fractured. A hole, a separation of humanity.
There are those who have
and those who have not.
Water. Food.
Money.
In the countries with all diamonds, a symbol of love is not a heavy rock on a woman’s hand.
In the countries filled with fields of coffee beans, there are no five dollar lattes.
In the countries surrounded by water, it is hard for the people to drink.
Billions of people living in only one world,
some living in the shadows while others step into light.
We are delicate beings in a delicate place,
day by day fighting the good fight.
And in the moment that I die
I will ask myself why I spent so much time on the why.
