One Year

Verse 1:

One year ago, on a night of candy and costumes
I got the biggest treat of them all,
A smile as big as the moon
Right then it started, a photograph and a memory.
I knew you liked me but I was scared
I said to myself, please no
I can't get a girl like that, beauty and brains.
Week after week her eyes would put me in submission, never learning to put up a guard.
A heart racing so fast a nascar driver would be envious,
Week after week mumbles of a shy boy
Words would feel like a presentation,
Losing myself in her eyes, time after time.

Verse 2:
Months went by of hopeless dreams
Last day of school were everything is ending
Something began, a long text that filled up my screen.
Thought you would never feel the same, but you did
Tears ran down my face for the first time in years.
First date you were as nervous as me
Awkward silences, but smiles ear to ear.
But came the party, greeted by a smile and kiss
But left with a cold look.
Needing to impress your friends, I said
Some call me Clark Kent but I needed to be Superman.
That wasn't the end, but it was the beginning of it
Weeks went by and I got that text,
Just friend you said.
Not even wanting to see my face, it was over.
You left as you took that journey to Spain,
I was hopeless and alone
Just wanting to tell you how much you meant, how much I cared.
But you didn't, I cried for weeks, just wanting another chance
Never showing you the real me, never knowing the real you.
Your beauty tied me down, couldn't get out of my own way
Thinking I was still that fat boy from years Pryor.

Verse 3:
Months went by and I finally got my chance, to tell you how much you meant.
But you mumbled the words with a smile I dreaded to hear,
I have a boyfriend now.
My fear became a reality,
Someone 2 thousand miles a way you said,
All those hot summer nights with tears running down my face.
You were happy while I was in pain
It's not fare I said, two thousand is a lot longer then two feet
I cried again out of shame and embarrassment.
I guess his love is better then mine
Then acted out of spite, which isn't right
Called you fake and a coward.
I said I cared but I guess not,
You don't act that way, you never do.
Now every Wednesday I look across that room
At a club named SADD I became the name.
You may not feel that way anymore but that's okay
You'll always be locked in my memory
My first kiss my first love.
Your boyfriend probably makes you happier then I did
But that's okay, I just want to see you smile and those blue eyes glisson.
A year of love and heartbreak,
A year locked in a photograph taken one year ago.
A memory that comes with a long journey,
Thank you for that year.
