Only Beautiful Things

The weather report warns of

flash and freezing storms ahead.

My mother cautions me to be careful

when I go out into the cold.

But I couldn’t tell you that I’ve noticed.

If you asked me I’d have said,

The sun is brighter than ever,

and the breeze carries smiles

when it blows through my hair.

This is what you do to me.

You kiss my eyelids and tell me

I’m yours, making me see and feel

only beautiful things.
