Only (Natural)

she hid the flowers

behind her back

as if they were her only secret.

it’s only luck

that “secret”

rhymes with

“keep it.”

my flowers die

on a regular basis,

but i guess it’s only

natural.

i feel like

i would accidentally

let you kill me

if you only tried.

it’s strange,

but i think if i

were to grow my flowers

i would accidentally

kill them without

trying. i only meant to

prevent you

from dying.

i hid the flowers

behind my back

for they are my

only secret.

i washed my hair

like a wounded faerie,

and i drank the blood

that was too defiant

to only be red,

and it remained

an unnatural, poisonous

pink,

what an unfashionable drink.

a foul name

sits at the back of

my throat

like a sullied diamond

unable to shine through.

when you finally came to,

you found me as i slowly began to sink

sitting in a warm

bath of a most

unnatural and poisonous

pink.
