Only So Often

The recipes I could prepare

The blank pages I could bring to life

The paint

I could splatter...

All of these passions within me

Never put to use

If I am knowledgeable of my abilities

Then it's good enough, right?

After all

It only matters that I'm aware

And nobody else

The days lack color

Creativity is last on my list

When I want it to be

But there are times like this when

It becomes first priority

My only priority

Only so often

There is a surge of creativity

I am entranced in a muse

That lasts for hours

But feels like seconds when I'm in it

An idea overtakes me and doesn't leave

Until I put it on canvas

Paper

Strum it on guitar

Throw it in the oven to rise...

When there isn't a surge

There is resistance

And this is the hard part

The only one

Keeping myself from taking action

Is myself

I allow the very activities

That bring light to my eyes

To hibernate in the depths of my soul

Where no one can see

But me

I see the work of those

Strong enough to fight this resistance

Brave enough to showcase their talent

And think

I can do that

But will I ever?

If I let my talents rest within me

Then are they really talents?

Never revealed

Never appreciated by anyone but myself

A cake never baked

A painting never painted

The words I'll never hear

My story never told

I write in my free time whenever I feel strongly about a topic or need to get something off of my chest. Poetry has been a very therapeutic outlet for me through the years. I enjoy sharing my poems in hopes that they connect with someone, and I enjoy reading poems by other poets, too!
