The Only Way I Remember You
There I was running, thoughts grinding; not flowing like I wanted them to. Then a slow wind strolled by and left a single thought on the tip of my tongue. It tasted like an idea, but it might’ve been a memory or a lie. I stopped and wondered what I should do with it. And then she walked up and asked me what my name was. I answered Danny, but was that true? She then asked me how old I was, but I wasn’t going to tell her so I just shrugged. In the two silent seconds that followed I saw her and she saw me, then her friend called her over and she walked away. I sat down and decided what I was going to do. I had just been robbed and I knew I’d never be able to get back what was stolen. But if I chased after it, I thought that maybe I’d be able to at least see what that thought was.
During that long chase I only caught a glimpse. I’m pretty sure it was a lie.
